About Me

My name is Kayla. I am a 20 something momma of one (and one on the way), I work part-time in the medical field, and am a full-time wife of a trucker.

My husband drives flatbed and usually is only home for about 36-48 hours on the weekends. Sometimes he does not make it home and is out two weeks in a row. Our son proudly says "My dad's a trucker!" and I am also proud to call him "Mine". It takes a strong hard working man to do this job and I am grateful and appreciative to have met and married somebody who would sacrifice so much for his family.

Trying to run a household with a trucker husband has many difficulties. Weekdays are spent being a single mom (but married, therefore many take on the term "single wife"). While my husband is cruising the open free-way, seeing the world, I and those in my shoes, are left at home taking care of the kids, bills, errands, cooking, cleaning, working, all while trying to stay connected to your husband and make some time for yourself amongst it all.

That is why I decided to start blogging. I thought maybe it would keep me more organized, possibly I could connect with other women who are "single wives", and maybe give those of you struggling to keep it all together a glimpse at how another woman does it. I am not saying that I have all the answers, heck, I am new at this too and I am sure there will be an emotional post now and then!

I hope to include in this blog ways to stay connected with your significant other, how to make the most of the little time you have together, how to manage your household as a "single wife", taking care of kiddos, and making time for yourself! I will try to update my blog posts Mon-Thur, taking weekends off to spend as much quality time with my trucker and our family. :)

One thing I do for myself is crafting. I enjoy crocheting and crafting items for babies and toddlers. I also make hand-made "Trucker Quilts" that fit a standard trucker bunk and small items that will keep your trucker close to your heart. Check out the "Granddaughter Designs" part of the blog to see these items, NEW ITEMS ARE POSTED MONTHLY! I soon hope to start an Etsy shop in the future. Keep checking back!

So why did I name this blog "Roll On Momma"?
Because these lyrics are found in my favorite song that reminds me of my husband and our family.

"Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler)
Artist: Alabama
Written by: Dave Loggins
Listen on YouTube

Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till you get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler roll on (roll on)

Well it's Monday morning, he's kissin' momma goodbye
He's up and gone with the sun
Daddy drives an eighteen-wheeler
And he's off on a midwest run
As three sad faces gather 'round momma
They ask her when daddy's comin' home
Daddy drives an eighteen-wheeler
And they sure miss him when he's gone (yeah they do)

Ah, but he calls them every night and he tells them that he loves them
He taught them this song to sing

Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till you get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler, roll on (roll on)

Well it's Wednesday evening, momma's waitin' by the phone
It rings but it's not his voice
Seems the highway patrol has found a jack-knifed rig
In a snow bank in Illinois

But the driver was missin' and the search had been abandoned
For the weather had everything stalled
And they had checked all the houses and the local motels
When they had some more news they'd call
And she told them when they found him to tell him that she loved him
And she hung up the phone singin'

Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till you get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler roll on

Momma and the children will be waiting up all night long
Thinkin' nothing but the worst is comin'
With the ringin' of the telephone
Oh, but the man upstairs was listening
When momma asked him to bring daddy home
And when the call came in it was daddy on the other end
Askin' her if she had been singin' the song, singin'

Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till you get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler

Roll on highway, roll on along
Roll on daddy till you get back home
Roll on family, roll on crew
Roll on momma like I asked you to do
And roll on eighteen-wheeler, roll on (roll on)
